If you need to improve your English language level before starting the Undergraduate Foundation Programme or Pre-Masters Programme, you can first join one of our English language preparation programmes. Choose one or two terms of English Language preparation depending on your IELTS level.
Our English Language Preparation course will improve your English language skills up to the required level of IELTS 5.0 overall before you join the Undergraduate Foundation Programme.
1 term programme:
Academic IELTS for UKVI 4.5 overall (with minimum of 4.5 in writing)*
2 term programme:
Academic IELTS for UKVI 4.0 overall (with minimum of 4.0 in writing)*
*If you do not need a Tier 4 visa, or are exempted in another way, we can accept equivalent proof of English.
Our English for Pre-Masters course will improve your English language skills up to the required level of IELTS 5.5 in all areas before you join the Pre-Masters Programme. Entry requirements are listed below:
1 term programme†:
Academic IELTS for UKVI 5.0 overall (with minimum 5.0 in all areas)^
2 term programme:
Academic IELTS for UKVI 4.5 overall (with minimum 4.5 in all areas)^
^English for Pre-Masters students do not need to take an additional IELTS test at the end of their course to progress on to the Pre-Masters Programme. You will be assessed on your Academic English Skills (AES) grade at the International Study Centre (you will be required to achieve a minimum of 40% in all areas).
†You can study English for Pre-Masters (1 term only) and the Pre-Masters Programme with one visa.
The Undergraduate Foundation Programme offers you a pathway to the second year of a four-year undergraduate degree at the University of Strathclyde. Study for three terms and choose from two subject routes: Business and Social Sciences, or Engineering and Sciences.
The Pre-Masters Programme is a two-term pathway to prepare you for a postgraduate degree at the University of Strathclyde. There is a choice of two subject routes depending on the degree you want to progress to: Business and Social Sciences, or Engineering and Sciences.
